Mariinsky Theatre
|
|
The Mariinsky Theatre,
also known as the Kirov Opera and Ballet Theatre, dates back to 1859 and
enjoyed a royal following, including prominent dancers: Vatslav Nizhinsky
and Anna Pavlova. Much of the theatre was destroyed during the 900-day Siege of Leningrad when the Soviet Union was attacked by German Nazi forces. The theatre was restored in 1944 and is still in use. |
