Dows and Royce to be published in the Pan American Journal of Public Health

Students Kara Downs (College of Arts and Sciences) and Trevor Royce (Engineering) have had their paper accepted to the Pan American Journal of Public Health. While they are immediately adjacent, the infant mortality rate in Panama is twice as high as in Costa Rica. Kara and Trevor hyopthesized that this is due to a difference in the knowledge of prenatal care in the two countries. Funded by an award from the Harrison Institute, they found that indeed the women of Costa Rica are more knowledgeable of prenatal care than the women of Panama, independent of their level of education or economic class. Dr. Guilford served as their research advisor on this exciting project.
