Procedure for Set-Up
1. Set canister on ring clamp and attach nestor clamp to canister and support (scaffolding)
2. Place glass wool in base of canister - enough to stop any alumina from falling through
3. Add alumina slowly through top of canister, hitting the side of the canister with a soft mallet
4. Once full, continue packing by hitting vigorously and refilling top until the alumina level no longer decreases
5. Add glass wool to top of column and pack tightly
6. Place 1/2" tread to tubing adapter in top and bottom of canister (using thread tape) and tighten down
7. Attach heat tape or cover canister with heating jacket
8. Place beaker underneath canister (to collect water) and place Ar or nitrogen line (15-20 PSI) on top adapter
9. Heat column to internal temperature above 325 C for at least 8 hours
10. Remove heating apparatus and cool canister over Ar or nitrogen for 5 more hours
11. Remove gas line and attach valves - making sure the system is closed
12. Repeat procedure for other canister
13. Add stainless steel tubing and other parts as shown in diagram
